A perfect start for flute players
AZUMI flutes provide flute teachers and non-professional flutists with a range of instruments that individually facilitate maximum musical progress and thus generate motivation and success in teaching and learning.
AZUMI has become the established benchmark for exceptional quality in the flute market through continual development and innovation as well as through technical perfection and craftsmanship. Continual quality checks undertaken by ALTUS Handmade Flutes guarantee AZUMI’s continuing high standard of workmanship.
Perfect flutes for students

The desire to create the perfect range of instruments for non-professional flutists provoked Shuichi Tanaka, founder of ALTUS Handmade Flutes, to offer machine constructed flutes with professional handmade headjoints.
The choice of two specially designed lipplate cuts, Z-Cut or S-Cut, give flutists the opportunity to select a flute tailored to their abilities and preferences, thus accelerating their musical progress.
AZUMI Wave-Line series - flutes for children
Close collaboration with experienced music educators (led by Prof. Barbara Gisler-Haase from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) has allowed AZUMI to innovate further than has previously been achieved resulting in individually perfect instruments for performers of any age.
The AZUMI Wave-Line flute is evenly balanced along its length, experiences no tilting and plays in every way the same as a standard concert flute.
The AZUMI Wave Line flute, with patented O/V head joint, permits the building of a reduced length flute for beginners of an early age whilst maintaining all the playing properties of a standard concert flute.
Problems in balancing the flute, as experienced playing flutes with curved head joints now belong in the past. In addition to this, the AZUMI Wave-Line flute features the same sound quality as a concert flute – the hissing produced when using curved head joints is completely eliminated.
A further design feature is the level finger buttons which are positioned as close together and are as accessible as is technically possible. Allied to this, the light build, without trill key pivot and E-mechanism, further allows neat and non-restrictive fingering for players with small hands.
AZUMI Z-Cut series - flutes with light response
The instruments in the AZUMI Z-Cut Series offer an extremely light response and a focused warm sound throughout the entire flute scale. The Z-Cut of the lip plate of the handmade headjoint is especially designed for the needs of ambitious flutists and students, facilitating an effortless clean and focused sound.
The machine made flute body features excellent intonation and a durable mechanism.
• the comfortable blowing angle of the handmade Z-Cut helps to effortlessly create a warm focused sound with all dynamic possibilities
• extremely easy response throughout the flute scale because of the Z-Cut, even in the highest and lowest registers
• the ALTUS scale enables a clean intonation even for problematic tone
AZUMI S-Cut series - flutes with pointed key-arms
Inspired by the colourful sound inherent in professional ALTUS flutes, the instruments in the AZUMI S-Cut Series offer the player an expressive, rich sound in combination with an excellent response.
The additional sound possibilities combined with the professional mechanism design with French pointed key arms, which give greater stability, make the instrument an ideal choice for ambitious flutists and students who demand the highest levels of performance in sound and design.
• the handmade S-Cut headjoint enables the player to produce a personal, colourful and expressive sound with all dynamic shading possibilities and a slightly higher blowing resistance
• the flute features an even and light response throughout the entire flute scale• the professional design with French pointed key arms allows for greater stability of the mechanism, especially in intensive periods of practice.
